On 16th July 2024, U&Drama welcomed viewers to the rebranded channel with a long version of the Street Party ident. The same as it had been before, just with the new logo overlaid.


U (Holding Loop) - 2024

The UKTV off air holding loop, seen here on Dave, as it appeared from July 2024 and now updated to promote the U online streaming service in channel downtime. With the initial launch only renaming the free channels it continued to mix the new U-styled logos and old U-less logos.

U&Dave (Road - Town Name) - 2024

U&Dave opened up the first day of their new name with a re-edited version of the Roadsign with Town Names ident. The same as before, except for the new logo at the end.

Sparks fly and car engines rev in this new ident for U&Yesterday, now better reflecting the programming on the channel than the previous ident set had.

Scottish Amicable - 1993

For reasons known only to themselves, in 1993 life assurance firm Scottish Amicable resurrected the 80s superhero 'Captain Chaos' from the 1981 movie Cannonball Run. Now with an updated appearance for the 90s in order to promote their investments. Scottish Amicable was bought by Prudential only 4 years later in 1997, with the brand disappearing completely from the market by 2001.

As June 2024 progressed, the promotion for the impending rename of the UKTV channels was ramped up. Dave saw this promo being aired to promote the upcoming U& name change, keen to emphasise nothing would be changing except the name.

BBC Breakfast (Wales - Fault) - 2024

During the BBC Breakfast fault on June 11th, while network, Scotland and Northern Ireland stuck with the frozen title sequence, presentation at BBC One Wales cut to their breakdown slide.


BBC Breakfast (Fault) - 2024

6am on June 11th 2024, and BBC Breakfast fails to start as planned. After a long hold on a frozen title sequence, the studio is finally faded into, minus any graphics.

Drama (Sister Boniface) - 2024

A special ident for Drama used during May 2024 to promote the upcoming new series of Sister Boniface Mysteries to the channel. In a somewhat clunky interaction, channel continuity is mixed with the prerecorded audio from the character themself.


Drama (Boats) - 2024

In April 2024, two further idents were added to Drama's set. The first features two people running by the coast as waves crash and boats can be seen.

Tesco - 1991

One of several shorts of the time playing on well-known phrases or tropes, supermarket chain Tesco do their best to appeal to the furry crowd in 1991 with a brief advert featuring someone dressed in a wolf fursuit blowing down prices on ham. Coming soon to a 'found footage' channel near you?

Dave (Break - U&Dave) - 2024

Late in 2023 plans were announced to relaunch UKTV Play as 'U' and simultaneously rename all their traditional linear channels as 'U&x', with the whole strategy unusually being revealed over 6 months ahead of time. As part of the build up to this finally going to air, in May 2024 all the free channels started airing teaser break bumpers for the upcoming name change. Dave's version here.

Hamlet Cigars (Motorbikes) - 1991

Hamlet became famous throughout the 80s for their advertising featuring a character lighting up a cigar as everything else failed around them. Here in a 1991 advert, from the dying days of cigar advertising being allowed on UK television screens, a driver is shown knocking over a large selection of motorbikes.

The 'New on Two' tagline makes another of its periodical reappearances in this 2005 promo on BBC Two.

Stella Artois - 1991

The first TV advert in the famous long running 'Reassuringly Expensive' campaign series for Stella Artois aired in 1991. Entitled Jacques de Florette, it was based off a period drama Jean de Florette, and featured a flower seller using his wares to pay for a pint of the lager.


Access - 1991

An animated tray of seafood helps advertise Access card in 1991, this time with the slogan 'does you does or does you don't take Access'. And some people say English language standards have slipped!

Another ident brought back out to mark the 60th birthday on BBC Two by the Northern Ireland team. This time getting their money's worth out of the 40th birthday ident aired during the yellow 2 era.

BBC Two NI (60 Years) - 2024

To mark 60 years of BBC Two on 20th April 2024, BBC Two dug out a collection of old idents from across the years once more. While both network and Wales used generically branded 'BBC' versions, presentation in BBC Two Northern Ireland pulled out a few more stops to use locally branded Northern Ireland versions instead, albeit recreations made by Dave Jeffery for their Afternoon Classics strand a few years earlier rather than originals. One such NI ident seen here leading into a 60th music special on the channel, complete with more shots of old idents in the opening sequence.
