BBC Four (1.45am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

The 1.45am junction on BBC Four made a mention of the new year, however it was scripted very carefully as this was an example of a recording which had been used for both an earlier showing of the show on New Year's Eve and this repeat in the early hours of New Year's Day.

BBC Four (12.20am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

With BBC Four's ever decreasing budget and changed remit as a 'repeats' channel, the continuity links for the new year were somewhat more subdued too compared to BBC Three. The evening saw a mix of both generic announcements, and some tailored to the different programming for New Year's Eve/Day but scripted in such a way that they could be used for multiple showings of the same show. The first junction for 2024 however was into a film which was not being repeated, allowing for a more bespoke message to be put out in that junction welcoming viewers to the new year.

BBC Scotland (12.30am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

Poor weather conditions in my local area limited the amount of junctions captured for the BBC Scotland channel for the 2023/2024 buildup. However not to be left out completely, here is the final junction from the channel for the night aired at 12.30am immediately after the conclusion of the Hogmanay programme that as usual was simulcast on both the BBC Scotland channel and BBC One Scotland.

BBC One Scotland (9am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

BBC One Scotland (8.15pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

As usual, BBC One Scotland were heavily opted out of the network schedule to run their own Hogmanay programming instead. This also meant a lot of junctions to mark the occasion. The build up is already under way in the 8.15pm junction here.

ITV2 (1.30am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

Getting right into the early hours on ITV2 and still acknowledging the occasion in the 1.30am junction on the channel. Though the programme content may have swayed that decision slightly.

ITV2 (12.30am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

Junctions beyond midnight on ITV2 continued to make reference to the New Year, with this one airing at 12.30am.

ITV2 (12.05am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

The first announcement from ITV2 for 2024 aired shortly after midnight to welcome viewers into the new year.

ITV2 (11.35pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

The other offshoot channels from ITV ignored the New Year occasion throughout the evening, and once again it appeared as though ITV2 were going to join them. However in their last 2023 link less than half an hour midnight, continuity links finally started acknowledging it.

STV (6am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

Welcoming viewers to New Year's Day again on STV, just ahead of ITV Breakfast's hours at 6am. ITV1 made no such mention in this junction themselves.

STV (11.15pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

In their last junction of 2023 at 11.15pm, and another which didn't exist in England, STV continued their build up to midnight with their own programme spanning midnight and incorporating the Scottish celebrations. From just after midnight, the channel largely rejoined the same programming as network ITV1.

STV (10pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

Following the yearly tradition within the ITV network, remaining independent STV ran their own heavily opted out schedule for the Hogmanay celebrations North of the border with a lot more mention made of the occasion as a result. The 10pm junction on the channel here.

Channel 5 (8pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

Things were on their usual pattern at Channel 5 towers too. An evening of filler music party programming, and very little acknowledgement of the occasion on the announcements on the main channel (with even less on their offshoot channels). There was one mention of the occasion allowed in the 8pm junction on New Year's Eve though.

ITV1 (12.10am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

Also sticking to tradition on the other side, ITV1 had their first announcement of 2024 to welcome people into the New Year at 12.10am. Then it was straight back to regular programming for the rest of the night. No point dwelling on these things!

ITV1 (11.40pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

Network ITV1 have traditionally filled New Year's Eve with a movie before cutting to ITV News shortly before midnight, and the end of 2023 was to be no exception. With no acknowledgement of the occasion into the Bond movie immediately prior to the news, it was left to last junction of the year at 11.40pm to really get into the New Year spirit.

More4 (12.20am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

More4 seemed a little left out of the New Year party compared to previous years, with few mentions of the occasion in the build up to midnight. However Channel 4 do like to include every one of their channels to some degree, and true to form a message was included with their first junction after midnight on January 1st.

Film4 (2.05am NYD) - New Year 2023/2024

With the film spanning the year crossover being a long one, it wasn't until gone 2am that Film4 finally got to join in with the welcomes to the New Year. Before continuing introducing their very chirpy sounding next feature.

Film4 (11.15pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

Film4's last junction of 2024 was aired at 11.15pm on New Year's Eve.

Film4 (9pm NYE) - New Year 2023/2024

Being a channel dedicated to airing lots of long films, Film4 never has much of an opportunity for junctions to mention the New Year. However they made the best use of those they had. The 9pm junction on the channel.
