In order to celebrate 9 years of TV Whirl, we go right back to the beginning, and take a look at a bunch of the contemporary pres, in the way it would have been covered in 2001. Lovingly recreated clips are featured below, with all the authenticly classic effects included; 14:9 letterboxing, wobbly VHS tracking, high quality mono sound, massive 192x144 HD pictures, carefully cut editing. BBC One Wales (Lawn) - 2010
In 2009, BBC One unveiled a 'refresh' of their existing ident set. Gone were the long well-produced filmups built up over the previous 4 years, in favour of newly cut versions. Featured here, what remained of the Lawn ident, as seen on BBC One Wales.

BBC Two Wales (Tent) - 2010
BBC Two also saw a small 'refresh' of their presentation in 2009. In among a raft of changes, the box on idents was changed from the left to the right. One of the tent variants here, several of which have existed over the years.
BBC Two Wales (Bike) - 2010
Another clip, this time with a motorbike. Apologies for audio quality.
ITV1 (Bubbles) - 2010
ITV1's set of idents consist of splashes of yellow set in random scenes, designed to show... something. In this one, bubbles fly past.
Channel 4 (Bowls) - 2010
Channel 4's surreal idents were first introduced in 2005, and most of them remain to this day, with additional new ones having been added over the years. The 4 appears onscreen only briefly, as in this clip bushes fly through the air. Be aware this is a large file, which may take some time to download on 56k connections.
Channel 4 (Rollercoaster) - 2010
A rollercoaster running through a theme park this time makes up the 4.
Channel 4 (News) - 2010
Also from Channel 4, the intro to their well respected news programme, presented in the highest SD and with top quality sound.
Five - 2010
Channel 5 quietly dropped their much-heralded-in-their-press-releases ident set in favour of this batch made of up snippets from their programmes. Justin Lee Collins and CSI stars appear in the background amid a large Five logo.

ITV3 - 2010
And just for a few channels from the new-fangled digital thing. ITV3's current set of idents went to air in the main ITV rebrand in 2006, and have remained in place since.
E4 (Lounge) - 2010
E4 is the sister channel to Channel 4, covering more of an entertainment slant. The presentation is a mix of wacky trailers, surreal idents involving teddy bears getting blown up, and viewer submissions to lead in and out of breaks. Here a teddy bear gets blown up in the lounge, leading us into Friends. A series occasionally aired on the channel.
E4 (Sting) - 2010
One of the viewer submitted stings from E4. This time a bird gets blown up.
